Cultural Hub

At the core of the FIX redevelopment lies culture.

At the core of the development, culture occupies a central position, serving as the main axis around which the site’s new identity is shaped. Specifically, within Complex 2, a 7,715 sq.m. area owned by the Ministry of Culture — the MOMus – Museum of Modern Art will be housed, featuring the Costakis Collection, the most significant Russian avant-garde collection internationally. The complex will also host the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the leading symphonic music institution in Northern Greece. The architectural design is being undertaken by ASPA KST Architects.

Purchased in 2000 by the Ministry of Culture for USD 33.5 million, its value today is estimated at EUR 350 million. Since 2000, the collection has been incorporated into the State Museum of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki and has found a temporary home in the Moni Lazariston. Its works have travelled to dozens of international exhibitions from London, Madrid and Paris to New York and Moscow.

At FIX’s new headquarters, the Costakis Collection will finally receive the permanent space it deserves: a modern museum with a permanent exhibition, research center, library thanks to the Bowlt–Misler donation of over 40 000 rare books and archives, conservation laboratories, educational programmes and interactive spaces for the public.

At the same time, in the same complex, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the most prominent symphonic music body in Northern Greece and one of the country’s leading cultural organisations, will for the first time gain its own permanent home, ensuring not only stability, but also access for all citizens to music and culture. The architectural study is being carried out by the Greek architectural firm ASPA-KST.
